Home Renovation Tip: Small Design Changes Can Cost More Than You Think

Here’s something most homeowners don’t realize until they’re already in the middle of a renovation:
Small renovation changes can create a lot more work than they seem.
I’m not talking about major layout changes or structural stuff. I mean things like moving a mirror, resizing it, or deciding you want something a little different after installation has already happened.
For example, changing a mirror on a tiled wall isn’t just a matter of swapping one out for another. If holes were drilled into tile for anchors, those tiles usually need to be removed and replaced so you’re not left with visible holes. That means carefully removing tile, prepping the surface, reinstalling new tile, letting it set, grouting, and only then reinstalling the new mirror. It’s a chain reaction.
None of this is “wrong” — homeowners should absolutely change their minds if something doesn’t feel right. But it’s important to understand that even small changes often become a change of scope, not a quick tweak.
