Northern Son –
Safe at Home Program (Sault Ste. Marie Seniors)
Helpin Sault Ste. Marie Seniors
live Safe at Home
The Northern Son – Safe at Home Program is an ongoing community initiative providing free senior home safety assessments and basic safety modifications for seniors in Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding area who may not otherwise be able to afford them.
-
This is not a promotion.
-
This is not a sales campaign.
-
There is no obligation and no expectation or
mention of future work.
It’s simply Northern Son recognizing a need and offering trade expertise with one goal: contribute to the community by helping seniors stay safe and independent at home.

What Does This Program Cover?
Labour & Materials (Clear Transparency)
-
Northern Son donates labour for approved projects.
-
Materials may be donated by local businesses and suppliers.
-
If materials are not donated, the homeowner may be asked to cover material cost only (no markup).
There is no upselling, no pressure, and no expectation of future work.
What This Program Does Not Cover
To keep this sustainable and fair, the Safe at Home Program does not include:
-
Full renovations or remodels
-
Major structural work
-
Cosmetic upgrades
-
Large multi-day renovation projects
-
If someone needs bigger work beyond the program’s scope, we can still provide guidance and options—but the program itself stays focused on safety essentials.

Bathroom grab bar installation
-
Lever-style faucet handles instead of knobs

Guard rails/handrails on both sides of stairways

Minor accessibility adjustments that reduce fall risk
These changes can make a major difference in day-to-day safety.
